two halves represent Heaven and Earth
Meaning
Chon-Ji literally means 'the heaven the earth'. It is interpreted in the Orient as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history. Therefore, it is the initial pattern played by the beginner. This pattern consists of two similar parts, one representing the Heaven and the other the Earth.
Practice Notes
Chon-Ji is the first pattern learnt by every ITF Taekwondo student. Performing it with correct stances, chamber positions and sine-wave motion is the foundation of all later tuls.
